About Leadership Hillsborough's Program

Leadership Hillsborough is a 10-month program running September through June. It requires a commitment of at least one full day a month with an overnight opening retreat, and a mid-year retreat. Both retreats offer invaluable opportunities for members to bond with other classmates and learn more about themselves.   Seminar examples include:  Social Services, Communication, Economy, Arts & Culture, Government, Education, Health, MacDill Day, etc.

Topics are carefully selected and planned to maximize the participant’s awareness of their community, and their ability to influence it. In order to graduate each class member must attend 80% of the planned seminars, and actively participate in the following to graduate:

Tours & Seminars - Actual topics will vary from year to year based on community issues.

Current Class Seminar Schedule

Class Project - This portion of the program allows the participant to exert their leadership to benefit the community. The subject and depth of the project are up to the class’ discretion.

Social Events - These events are set up to introduce current class members to the Alumni, and allow them to build personal relationships with them and each other in a relaxed environment.

Benefits to the Participant - Upon graduating the program, the participant will have gained a greater awareness of Hillsborough County and be able to identify their role within the community. The participant will have developed an active, socially conscious, and trustworthy network of friends, colleagues, and community leaders. Perhaps the most important benefit will be how the participant influences and bring benefit to the class.

Benefits to the Employer- The employer is seen as one that is involved in the community and promotes increased development of it employees.  The participant can them bring back to the employer new leadership values, the broader view of the community and how they can contribute to society.
